How to Complete UPSC OTR Registration (New Portal) – Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the UPSC Online Portal
Visit the official website: upsconline.nic.in
On the homepage, you’ll notice four major sections:
  • Create Account / Login
  • Universal Registration
  • Common Application Form (CAF)
  • Examinations
2. Set Up Your UPSC Account
  • Click “Create Account” from the menu or the first box on the homepage.
  • Go through the instructions, accept the declaration, and move ahead.
  • You will need:
  • Active email (OTP required)
  • Working mobile number (OTP required)
  • A strong password (as per rules shown on the screen)
  • Once done, UPSC sends a confirmation SMS + email.
3. Sign In
  • You can log in using any one of these:
  • Mobile number + OTP
  • URN + Password
  • Email ID + Password
4. Complete the Universal Registration (UR)
  • Identity Details: Name, DOB, gender, parents’ info
  • Matriculation Details: Class 10 board, roll number, passing year
  • Aadhaar or Other ID: Aadhaar or a valid ID proof
5. Fill Out the Common Application Form (CAF)
6. Lock CAF
✅ Your UPSC OTR is now complete.

How to Apply for a Specific UPSC Exam

1. Select the Exam
  • Go to the Examinations section on the new portal.
  • Pick the exam you want to apply for and click “Apply.”
  • Your UR + CAF data will auto-fill parts of the application.
2. Fill the Exam Application
  • Complete the remaining fields
  • Pay the fee (UPI/Card/Net Banking)
  • Choose your exam centre
  • Review and submit the final form
  • A confirmation PDF and payment receipt will be generated—download and store them.
